Wouldn’t you if you were living in the Third World on 10 cents a day?
No doubt the Messiah himself would have been turned away from our borders as an undesirable. Unless he had a large donation to make to the ruling political party. Or was a Russian Oligarch, a money launderer seeking to wash his funds in the City of London, or a non domiciled person intent on the tax advantages Great Britain so obligingly offers the obscenely rich.
But then presumably such people arrive by private jet or super yacht and do not have to rely on toy inflatables provided by people smugglers to cross the treacherous waters of the English Channel.
Leaving aside any belief in the supernatural, if the accounts in the New Testament of the life of Jesus of Nazareth are true, what a man he was. Sadly, humanity has not improved in the last 2000 years despite his efforts.
Christmas is worth celebrating. Our collective behaviour is not.
Weltanschauung 
In fact, Anthony, not only has humanity not improved, it appears to be “going to hell in a handbasket” (Revelation 18).
Please give consideration to the truth of these stories. Charles Colson, President Nixon’s ‘hatchet-man’ before Watergate noted, ““I know the resurrection is a fact, and Watergate proved it to me. How? Because 12 men testified they had seen Jesus raised from the dead, then they proclaimed that truth for 40 years, never once denying it. Every one was beaten, tortured, stoned or put in prison. They would not have endured that if it weren’t true. Watergate embroiled 12 of the most powerful men in the world – and they couldn’t keep a lie for three weeks. You’re telling me 12 apostles could keep a lie for 40 years? Absolutely impossible.”

Note that smug Mr Rees-Mogg (pictured to the right) is worth hundreds of millions of dollars. So it is odd that he and the rest of the Tory Party seem intent on denying access to anyone seeking “economic benefit”. Not a great world, but whatever the “truth” of the Christian lore, that tradition (if taken literally) does inform us how we ought to behave. I wouldn’t be without it – it would be an even sadder world.

As a former trade union rep and member of Left Unity / Labour Party, I’m simply flabbergasted that I find my self in leagues with Tory backbenchers and get my information from GB News.
And why, because I believe in freedom, choice and prosperity. Clearly I don’t sign up for 95% of Conservative policy, but the 98 Tory MP’s must be applauded this week to stand up against totalitarianism.
And watching GB News yesterday gave hope, watching the tens of thousands of goodly folk marching against this medical and economic tyranny.
It is time we stand shoulder to shoulder against this government and those that stand with them (incl. 95% of Labour MP’s).

God almighty what a stunning, stunning poem. I have never read Dillon Thomas before but how poignant and thrilling this piece is. I am inspired to read more of his life and his poetry.
Democracy is a cruel joke. Once in power, the assets and rights which should belong to the electorate are assumed and confiscated by the elected to do with as they please. Left or right, a dictatorship of sorts inevitably results, sometimes harsh and terrible, sometimes irritating, irksome and depressing but not lethal.
I have relatives and friends in politics at both local and national level. They do not inspire me with hope or enthusiasm.

Well played. As always, it was a pleasure to read. We can only hope others will start thinking along these lines. Maybe our behavior will improve in the process. Yes. It’s a hopeful thought but still, maybe.
